Hopewell Health Centers is a nationally accredited federally qualified health and community mental health center with 23 sites across TEN counties throughout Southeastern Ohio (Athens, Franklin, Gallia, Hocking, Jackson, Meigs, Perry, Ross, Vinton, and Washington). We are currently seeking a Peer Support Specialist to join our Athens First Episode of Psychosis Behavioral Health team.

As a Peer Support Specialist on the First Episode of Psychosis (FEP) team, you will work as a member of an interdisciplinary team to implement and monitor treatment for individuals being served within the out-patient and/or residential facility. This position involves participation and implementation of program goals and objectives to promote a strengths-based, wellness-informed client centered approach to assisting individuals being served in achieving person—driven goals.

Responsibilities of the Peer Support Specialist include but are not limited to:

  • Assist peers in choosing, obtaining, and keeping wellness and healthy lifestyle related goals.
  • Help a peer work through the process of identifying health and wellness related goals.
  • Ask facilitative questions to help peer gain insight to their own personal situation.
  • Empower peers to find solutions for health problems and concerns they are facing.
  • Help peers find their own solutions by asking questions that give them insight into their wellness status.
  • Promote consumer engagement in therapy with clinicians, engagement with psychiatric appointments, compliance with the healthcare registry, involvement and engagement with wellness services and engagement with primary care.

What do we look for in our Peer Support Specialists??

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent
  • Eligible to be Certified Peer Supporter (CPS) in Ohio and is certified by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
  • Ability to engage young adults experiencing psychosis.
  • Exhibits enthusiasm, respect, adaptability, flexibility, and spirit of cooperation in the work environment.
  • Demonstrates ways to become empowered and self-responsible.
  • Knowledge of recovery-based concepts with a personal history as a consumer of mental health services.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to be sensitive to the cultural needs of the clients and their families.
  • A valid driver’s license, good record, and vehicle suitable for transportation (must be at least 21 years of age due to insurance reasons)
